 Remote Starter
Anyone know good ones chitty ones? I wanna get one for the tow rig before winter. We have one on our diesel and it's awesome to sit down in a warm truck at first. I see some for as low as $50 and some as high as $350 that have an LCD display. lol. Anyone put one in recently? I just plain don't feel like researching.

 Re: Remote Starter
I installed this one... http://www.vminnovations.com/product_11 ... Start.html...in my wife's Highlander. After my Tacoma came with the same system, naturally she was jealous when I was remote starting my truck in the snowy, cold winter we had this past year. If you werent so far away I would demo it for ya. It has a pretty loud alarm siren, shock sensor, starter kill, it auto-locks your doors when the vehicle begins moving, and an optional output which could be used to remotely roll up your windows or pop your truck, if equipped with power trunk release, or use it for something else entirely. Many of the options you are able to modify or disable. It's not super-great but since it's my first experience with one I would give it 8 out of 10 stars. It did auto lock the doors one time when I wasnt in the truck, luckily my wife had her door key to the truck with her or we would have been screwed lol. When I bought the truck, the PO left a key in the ignition and just carried around his remote. Said if they reached through the rolled down window and tried to start it, the alarm would go off and starter disabled so they werent going anywhere. I'm not that trusting however.

 Re: Remote Starter
I've been spoiled by my keyless entry systems over the last 20 years, so when I acquired my current car a few years ago and it didn't have one, I started looking to add it and ended up getting the remote start feature to go along with it.
I got one of the DesignTech units from Advance and it was pretty easy to install and works well. The only complaint I have with it is that it doesn't have the range as advertised. The 1000 foot range is more like 100 feet if going through any walls; especially the steel walls at work.

 Re: Remote Starter
Can you wire one of these up to have a delay for the glow plugs to warm up before cranking? I wouldn't mind remote start on the tow rig, but don't want to tear nothing up.

 Re: Remote Starter
I think the one I posted does, I'll check the manual. EDIT: yes it does support diesel.

 Re: Remote Starter
Most of them have an adjustable delay before cranking for diesels and some even have a timer for the turbo. I don't really need all that fancy stuff like rolling windows and don't believe I have a trunk. lol. I just need a key fob with lock, unlock, alarm, and a start/stop button. I guess the only difference in most of them is the range and all that fancy crap I don't need.
