What winch to use?

Post by Justin_WJ » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:54 am

Well guys im building a winch bumper for the WJ and im stumped as to what size and brand winch i want. The only winch ive ever owned was a 9,000 pound superwinch that shitted out on me 13 months after i bought it.

i know i want synthetic cable though so thats a start! I want quality but not too awful expensive, thanks in advance!

I'm not in the infantry anymore, I'm medical now, so take this for what you want..... I just bought a Smittybilt X2O 8000lb, haven't had to use it yet but the reviews are all good. I don't need to cover it as many need covered to keep the water out. The X2O is submersible, pretty cool if you ask me.

Name brand doesn't really matter when you buy a $400 winch. Your getting a bottom shelf winch no matter what name is on it.

Put your money into the WINCH, you can upgrade to synthetic rope later.

Make water proofing a priority. Not all winches are water proofed. If it's not water proofed, don't waste your money.

There are only 3 winches I'll consider buying....

I can save you some cash on the Rough Country Line, and they are very good quality for the price range, I dont think anyone that has seen one in action or owned one can question its strength and durability, and as an added bonus they come with a very well made wireless remote as well :bigthumb:

How long have you owned and how often have you used your Rough Country winch?

Havent owned them long, they just started selling them in the last 2 years, I have however sold several and used mine countless times, I probably wheel and use mine around here more than "most" people that have Jeep's or Winches and Im not easy on anything :bigthumb:

Im not gonna pretend its the best winch ever made, but for the price its very well built, waterproof, and has a very good quality to it, especially the wireless remote, most the winches with wireless Ive seen have a key fob this is more of a weather proof heavy duty switch. Take it for what it is, if you want a great winch at a discount then do it, if not, thats fine too, wont hurt my feelings a bit, I dont make any money off selling to the jeepers, I just pass it on

$225 for an RC 9500 is pretty good. I'll take one for that. How do you want the payment sent?

How much could you get me this one for? And what kind of warranty do they have to offer?
