Broken seat bracket bolts

Post by smccollamjr » Tue Sep 22, 2015 10:06 pm

I broke the 2 bolts that hold the passenger side rear seat bracket on. I tried drilling them out. Now both bolts have broken bits in them. I get see the welded nuts underneath. My plan is to remove the welded nuts and replace them with grade 8 bolts with lock nuts. What's the best way to remove the welded nuts if you don't have access to a welder or torch?

Find the spot welds and drill out. Flat chisel them free or cutting wheel free...

Broken seat bracket bolts

I put a socket/ratchet on the welded nuts, applied some pressure and they popped right off. I always make things tougher than they need to be.

Just a little bolt triva grade 8 bolts are hardened and will shear or snap when subjected to sideloading. I would use grade 5 on seat mounts they bend before snapping.
And try a carbide drill bit on the broken bits in the hole. Drill slow.
Good luck.
