YJ problems

Post by RAMaJEEP » Sun Aug 07, 2016 11:26 pm

What im dealing with is a YJ with a ax15 trans according to the VIN its a 94' but it has an internal slave cylinder . Apparently the clutch slave cylinders are different between some years and i dont know how to find the year of it. Rock Auto is listing different part numbers for 91-92 and 93. Any suggestions

Take the old slave cylinder to a local auto parts store or dealer and physically compare them.

The trans is out of an older YJ. Could have even been a 4.0L swap job. Hard to say. The AX-15 appeared in 89 and ran through 92 with the internal slave IIRC.

Early ax15's had internal slaves. Even late 2.5l's with ax5's had external slaves

The AX-5 ran behind the 2.5L, it had both internal and external slaves depending on years. The BA-10 Peugot (translated - piece of junk lol) was the MT in 87-88 behind the 258(YJ) and 4.0L(XJ/MJ) it was an internal slave. It was replaced by the AX-15 in mid 1988, The EARLY AX-15's ran an internal slave until 92 (maybe 93) by 1994 all Jeep MT went to external slaves.
