Jeep YJ Frame Rot.

Post by trailjeep » Thu Apr 27, 2017 9:37 am

Does anyone know of a person in or near Huntington, WV who can weld a Jeep frame? I have the typical frame rot on the rear frame rails where the shackles mount. 1989 Jeep YJ. I am looking for some one who can cut out the rust and weld in patches. Having a hard time finding someone local who can help for a reasonable cost.

if you cant do it yourself, you will have to pay someone with the tools and know how to get it done.

with that being said, why do not think the quotes you have gotten are on point?

(assuming you think the quotes you have gotten are to high)

The local body shop wanted 800 dollars to fix a 3 inch hole on the rear frame rail. I know the gas tank will need to be dropped but that takes 15 minutes. I had the gas tank out several years ago to replace a fuel pump. Took very little time. I was looking for someone with welding skills that would do it at their home for less money.

If the rot is on the right frame rail I think I have a patch panel that slips over the rail. But it still would need welded. Wish you were closer I could fix it for you.

Auto rust sells the repair patches for a pretty reasonable price. Im sure you can find someone to weld it in for you. If places are giving you a hard time over dropping your tank you could always do it at home and trailer it to whereveer you get it fixed at. Id help if you were closer

The auto rust is the patch I have. I bought it but sold my YJ before using it.

I ordered the driver side frame section. I cannot afford both sides this week. Will order the passenger side on Monday.

The Jeep is fixed and back on the road. Had the fuel tank dropped and new rear frame sections welded in and painted/undercoated. Cost me 200 dollars for both sides. I think that was a good price for a quality welding job.
