I got my Xenons installed

Image

I didn't realize when I bought them, but the marker lights aren't the ones that came with the flares. I had to do some redneck engineering to install them. We'll see how it turn out tomorrow after the glue dries. If that doesn't work I may try my hand at JB Weld.

smccollamjr's Slow TJ Build

I thought I had a steering box problem. When I made turns the steering wheel kept jerking back to the center. I got both wheels off the ground, turned the wheels all the way to the left and tried to spin the tires. The right tire spun fine, the left would spin at all. With the wheels straight they spun fine. Turns out my driver's side u-joint was bad. The bearings on the stub shaft were completely frozen. When I pulled the axle I couldn't move them at all. I put my spare axle in. It has an old joint in it but it's better than what I had. Maybe this will light a fire under me to get my HP30 installed.

I got my HP30 installed tonight. I still need to get Aussie out of my old axle and install it.

Thanks! I put the lube in the pumpkin and took it for a drive. The slight vibration I had around 70mph seems to have gone away. I installed a new RC steering stabilizer that came with my XJ lift that's been lying around my garage for many years. It's pretty thick and hits the drag link if it flexes much at all. I'll probably replace it with a stock one.

Just for recorded keeping...
Due to a high idle problem I cleaned the throttle body and IAC. While I was doing that I left the battery disconnected because I read somewhere that might fix it. I also checked the plugs, they looked fine. When I reinstalled the TB I noticed one of the vacuum lines on the left side of the intake manifold was completely off. If I didn't knock it off removing the TB that was may have been the problem. Symptoms were idle at 1200rpm. When depressing the clutch while on the interstate idle would fluctuate between 1200 and 2000rpm. When coming to a stop on the off ramp idle would stay at 2000rpm for several seconds then slowly drop to 1200rpm. It now idles at 800 rpm. Tomorrow I'll see how it does on the interstate.

Update: When I got off the interstate it idled at around 1050 RPMs after a 20 minute drive. I tap the gas pedal and it dropped to around 750 RPMs.

When you cleaned the throttle body, did you notice any unusual wear? Specifically around the butterfly valve? Sounds like its getting caught on something, and tapping the gas frees it up

Re-installed my engine skid and put my Aussie in the HP D30 I put in a month or so ago. This makes the 2nd Jeep and 3rd axle it's been in. It probably has 50k miles on it. Unfortunately, the majority are road miles.

Replaced the valve cover gasket this evening. Hopefully that will stop all the crud seeping down the back and side of my motor.
