Steveakus Buggy Build

Post by Steveakus » Sun Sep 08, 2013 6:39 pm

It all started with getting the Mud Monkey Back (1978 GMC)

Image

I used it as a donor because the body on it was getting a little worse than I thought it was a couple years ago when I sold it, Plus our off-road needs where heading in this direction anyways..... so I tore the Mud Monkey apart as hard as it was to do:

Image

And now with Special Thanks to Josh @ NAPFAB (Cowboy80CJ5 on here) the buggy is under way

The beginning Plans :

Image

A little Progress Today, the plan slightly changed as we went through the build, I'm really, really happy with it:

Looking for Tons, but as of now,,,,, going with the 1/2 tons ( I know they wont last long) but with some finesse style driving I might get by a little while with them

Thanks Josh! As for keeping the shop clean, I am a pretty big stickler on keeping things neat. I cant stand working around things!

Steve....I got a little bit more done on the roof of this lastnight. I got the brow in, and a few other bars. I will try to get some pics of it this evening!

No, the truck frame was sold with the rest of the truck body

How did you make the splice on the top bar at the b piller with a weld seem in the tube?

Looks good, but i think you would be far ahead to go ahead and put the driveline that you want in now versus waiting. 1/2 ton stuff is pointless.

Multi points of contact welded up for the splice, Im not sure if Josh sleeved that junction or not, but I trust his work and decisions, and we both know how strong good welds are.

And as far as the axles go, I know its gonna be troublesome, Im actively looking for Tons, as is Josh for me, just on a really tight budget and already have what I have, ya know

Here are a few progress pics Steve. I as able to work on it some in the evening this week, and was able to get a little done. I will have to take a break from it next week to knock out the RZR that I have in here, but I am pretty sure that you will be happy with the progress. Here are the pics!!!

Good welds are important. But the problem with pipe is you can not sleeve it.

Would you be interested in buying all the parts you need to complete this buggy ie 4 fox coilovers, good ford one tons with nice shafts, psc steering, heims, atlas, fuel cell? If so pm me.
