2013 JK NOT a Rubicon, NOT going to build this one....

Post by SLADE » Thu May 12, 2016 3:34 pm

Started off with a plain base model 2 door JK. Only thing I wanted was 3.73 gears so it would be comfortable with 285's.

Through some 18/60 coils on and picked up a set of 285/70R17 Fierce Attitude tires on a set of factory 17" wheels with 1.25" wheel spacers.

By the time I had about 1,000 miles on it, the 35" MTR/k tires sitting in the basement had talked me into running them. After all, I was only a 1.25" BL and 4.88 gears with Detroit Truetracs front and rear away from running them.

Started working on the suspension and getting a more complete suspension under it. After a lot of looking into the different manufacturers, I'm very comfortable having a mostly 2.5" Metalcloak Suspension with some Synergy, and JKS brackets thrown in. It has Currie Antirock Sway Bars front and rear getting full travel out of a set of 11" Bilstien 5100 shocks. Picked up a set of Q78 TSL Bias tires for the summer and trail use. Swapped the 1.25" wheel spacers out for 1.75" Synergy wheel spacers.

Where I'm at now...

Building a capable off road Jeep is easy...building a street legal one that you can drive two hours away to wheel and then drive to work the following morning is the challenge.

It would feel that way if I didn't get the Invoice/Bill along with it.

Gona start pulling the 30 now.

The 4.56 Gears for Mindy's 4dr showed up today too and I need to get the Truetrac out of my 30 to put in hers.

The Pro Rock 44 wasn't ordered just for the purpose of upgrading. I knew I had some issues in he front end. I've had a speed based noise when in 4 wheel drive (sounded like vibration but wasn't felt like you would expect from the sound). A front Driveshaft failure was expected so I had a driveshaft on standby. When the sound/vibration was first noticed, I just wrote it off as the front driveshaft taking a dump on me so no big deal.

Driveshaft didn't fix the noise and there was a mildly noticeable sound even with the front driveshaft out. I was pretty sure I had a R&P issue but still had room for improvement on the pinion angle. The Pro Rock 44 Unlimited addressed both...

Got the 30 pulled and popped the cover on it today...

Not really sure about the cause. I don't think I was too hard on it but there have been a few times that I've put a decent load on it. Not sure if it's a defect, setup issue, Just broke, or if the Q78s were harder on it than I thought.

The Q78s have been great. All 4 balanced out well (took some weight but balanced). They run good down the road and are pretty comfortable for a Bias TSL. They were surprisingly quiet when I first got them but are getting a little louder with wear. I'm cautious on wet roads with them and pulled them off for the winter.

yea I remember you saying before that they did well, especially for what they are.
Tires are odd like that, definitely cant judge them by looks.
My beefy 35x12.50x17 KM2s are WAY quieter than the 265/75/16 Wrangler Authortys I have on my Taco.

Dynatrac Prorock 44 is installed and getting broke in and fine tuned.

The Rear Axle shafts showed up today to compliment the RCV shafts in the front. Went with Made in the USA Revolution 4340 axle shafts. Got them in a package deal with the 4.56 gears for the 4dr.

With the front Dana 44 and shafts for the rear 44, it's really tempting to step up to 37's but I'm really leaning towards staying in the 35"-36" range. I'll have to decide before winter.
