Ram 1500 Eco-diesel - good motor?

Post by rdcox23 » Mon Oct 24, 2016 4:27 pm

Anybody have any experience with these engines?

I know they put them in the Grand Cherokees too.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a slightly used 2015 Ram 1500 with this engine.

Any insight is appreciated.

I have 17k on mine with no problems and good mpg. oil changes changes will be less expensive now thet rotella oil is approved for use. I get about 22 mpg on daily drive to work.

I been hearing guys getting 28MPG? IDK if that's flat landers, once it's broke in or what? I have been toying with the idea of trading my 2500 Hemi for one, if I can get close to 30 MPG and it has enough ballz to tow my 30' camper. I would give up the 2500 capacity to double it's MPG when it's not towing. I figure worst case bag the half ton and run 10 ply tires it should be doable.

I took mine on a 3hour trip on interstate 79 into ohio and ran just over 28mpg. return trip was 27mpg but lots of construction with lots of speed changes.

I was looking at a 2015 with only 11k miles on it, but it sold before I could pull the trigger.

Looking at 2016s now, but they are getting few and far between now.

Dutch Miller has one and they refuse to come off their price. I-77 has no Eco-diesels, but they say they can get me whatever I want (at a price).

I'm talking to the folks in Kernersville, NC also. They seem to be a high volume dealer with really good prices. I just hate to not buy local.

Check out dodge31.com. They are in kerversville NC. Best price I found and they delivered one to my house for $500. I did not want to go out of state either. Urse offered me $4500 for my trade and NC gave me $7000. Also check country club dodge in clarksburg WV. Also look at HAASZ motors in Dalton OH. Yes I did a lot of shopping! Steve White motors in Hickory NC may also be worth looking at. Not sure where you are looking in NC.

Ended up buying a slightly used 2016 from Mann Chrysler in Mount Sterling, KY.

They were very friendly / helpful and gave me what I consider a great deal on a truck that I like.

Truck gets at least double the gas mileage of my F350.

Glad to hear you found one! I am nearing 17k on mine and still love it. Fuel filter changes can be a little messy I just changed mine.
