I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 w/ 5.3 and (I assume) a 4L60E with 122k. When I bought it in 2009 I was told the transmission was serviced around 60k. The fluid looks clean and is full. It's my wife's daily driver which consists of several short trips up and down our hill a day and several trips a week into Charleston. I also use it for towing the Jeep occasionally and our Camper (5k lbs). Temp never gets over 200 (half way on the factory gauge) even when towing at 70mph in 90 degrees running the AC. Now that you have all the info:
- Should I have the transmission serviced? Why or why not?
- What kind of service should I get?
- Where is a GOOD place near Charleston to have it done? By GOOD I don't mean cheap. I don't mind paying a little extra to know it was done right.

Id find out what the factory service interval for it is. If it supposed to be a 100k mile service id go ahead and drain the pan and stick a new filter in. If its a 50k service then good for the rest of its life i wouldnt mess with it. Not that 122k miles is that high, but as a trans gets more miles on it the clutch and band lining material wears and mixes in with the trans fluid. In some cases if you change the fluid on a higher mileage auto trans you loose the clutch/band "dust" in the old fluid and no longer have it to help fill the gaps from normal wear, thus potentially causing the trans to slip.
