Homemade trackbar setup

Post by MidwayJeremy » Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:01 am

Ok so Ive broke ENOUGH trackbars and decided to build a almost bomb proof one!

So I ordered

1.5x.250DOM wall tubing like 3ft
Tube ends for 7/8 shank rod ends
3/4 hole 7/8 Shank QA1 Rod ends
Axle mount Track bar mount with front offset from Ballistic Fab
Adjustable Trackbar Frame mount also from Ballistic Fab

So only real thing I need to worry about is I need to make sure track bar and drag link is parallel and I should get no death wobble right?

All brackets will be welded on and trackbar will be bolted with Grade 8 3/4 bolts....

Anything else I need to remember or do?

I'm staying tuned to this one. I need to build a bombproof track bar for my CJ and wasn't a 100% sure on how to go about it.
38+ Class- 79' CJ-5 yard ornament
79' CJ-7 with every bolt on from JCWhitney possible/KOH Rig
2000 F-250
If it ain't leakin' it must be empty.

Bump steer is what you have if the two links are NOT paralell.
DW is almost always from something loose or out of balance.

Here is setup Im going with...except my pass side will mount to axle right beside coil spring and mount is offsetted to front of jeep almost 1-1.5"

Also Mine will be adjustable at both ends and yes ill make sure drag link and track bar is parallel

Have you driven the jeep anywhere with that track bar yet? Any bump steer, wobbles or binding through flex? I'm probably going to do something similar this summer.

I drove it home but couldn't really get going fast because I got something binding in axle housing and making clunking noise when I turn but it def seems more sturdy haven't got a chance to flex it or anything yet I'm curious to see how it acts too
